Course Description

We at the Community Workshop and Café believe passionately in the arts and crafts for their ability to improve your resilience, well being, community and sense of self worth.  If we had our way everyone would be taking regular art and craft courses.  Having had much experience of working in mainstream and specialist provision schools we are now concentrating on the home school community.

We have a well stocked and tooled workshop where we run 4 home school sessions per week.  The students can come and make projects of their choosing (with some guidance from us).  We offer woodwork, metalwork, turning, felting, painting, carving, sewing, stained glass and more.

Workshops are on a.

Wednesday 10.00 to 12.30 and 1.30 to 4.00

Friday 10.00 to 12.30 and 1.30 to 4.00

Some students prefer to stay all day.  For these students we eat lunch together from the café.  Home made vegetable soup and a roll and usually a piece of cake.

Pop in one day and have a look around and we will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Sessions are charged at £18.

About Instructor

  • Jason Pond

Jason has always had a passion for education, community and creating beautiful and unique things. He spent the first 20 years of his working life as a director of a bespoke glazing company with an annual turnover in excess of 4 million pounds. He was responsible for the company's design and fabrication, and the company's projects included many unique static and motorised glazed structures. In 2010 he changed direction and took up the post of crafts teacher in a small private school in the West Midlands. He now wishes to combine his managerial and educational experience with his passion for a inclusive and supportive community that is not dependant on the financial ability to pay to become a member. Throughout his life he has experienced the mental, physical and community benefits of working creativity and imaginatively with your hands and wishes to bring all of this together under one roof that is available for all.
